Guidelines issued regarding borewells from a safety perspective Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 7th - As per the directions of the Director Disaster Management Division and the National Disaster Management Response Force, guidelines have been issued regarding borewells. For this, District Collector Dilip Swamy has ordered the appointment of Senior Geologist, Ground Water Survey Department as the Nodal Officer. The order states that, open borewells should be mandatorily sealed to prevent access to them. For this, the responsibility of the concerned landowners and drilling agencies should be fixed, a system of registration of all borewells should be established. A comprehensive public awareness campaign should be conducted on the risks associated with open borewells and the safety of children. Borewell operators or landowners should erect safety barriers around borewells. A community-led mechanism should be implemented to identify and address unsafe borewells. As per the Supreme Court order, strict penalties will be imposed on those involved in violation of borewell safety rules. Regular inspections of the concerned authorities are necessary to ensure that safety rules are being followed. Vinod Khirolkar, Resident Deputy Collector and Chief Executive Officer of the District Disaster Management Authority, has informed through an order that legal action will be taken against any person, organization, or group under Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, in case of disobedience of this order.
