Women's safety is a matter of concern in India. How safe are women?
women safety in india Sati, Sabitri, Durga, Lakshmi are worshiped by people who consider them as goddesses in India where the number of violence against women is increasing. Due to greater exposure of women in every sphere of life, the amount of violence against women has increased manifold. Women were earlier confined to the four walls of homes and after globalization they have got opportunities and chances to stand equal in all fields equal to men. Women now a days are cab drivers and they are also CEOs of top companies. This is a good sign that the patriarchal mind of the society has changed to some extent, but not to the extent that it was believed. This is the same mind set that restricts women from going out and makes them serve as a tool for domination. This is the same mind set that considers men superior to women and always tries to dominate the women folk. There are various types of tools which are being used by the male dominated society to prove their dominance over the female. Eve teasing, sexual harassment, rape, domestic violence against women are the weapons used by men to demonstrate male superiority. This is one of the major reasons why violence is increasing in India and women safety is a concern in India. This is another major reason for the increasing women safety in India along with the slow pace of operation of the Indian Judiciary. Indian police is not efficient and not neutral and that is why cases of violence against women take a long time in the investigation stage. In the name of social pressure and shame, many women did not come out and report the matter to the police. This is one of the many reasons why the number of reported cases is less than the actual number of violence against women. It is a shame that rapes happen every day. Rape is a disease that attacks everywhere from everywhere. This is an evil that knows no bounds. It is present in every nook and corner of the world. It doesn't differentiate between a 3-year-old child and an 80-year-old woman. From parties to workplaces to our homes, rape and harassment have become a norm. The survivors of these heinous crimes are humiliated throughout their lives. Some of them even spend their entire "after rape life" on ventilators or they are burned alive. The first task to improve women's safety in India is to improve the number of women in every sector of society. Along with this, change in the minds of people is very necessary for the safety of women. From family to educational institutions, men should be taught to respect women. Furthermore, there should be fast-track courts to hear cases and investigate them in a time-bound manner. Strict laws alone cannot solve the problem of women safety in India, but implementing these laws in a timely manner can solve the problem to a great extent.
